This type of Pony House token dates 1879-1887. James (Jake) Ritty operated the Pony House, a saloon and gambling emporium. It was a noted rendezvous. Ritty in 1879 invented the cash register and started the company that became the National Cash Register Co. in Dayton, Ohio. Ritty sold the cash register business to John and Frank Patterson in 1884. I found this token at an old nursing home in Myerstown, PA back in 1985. |
