1921 Alabama Commemorative

1921 Alabama half dollar commemorative

This 1921 commemorative half dollar was found in an old motor pool at Fort Bliss, Texas.  The motor pool dates back to WWII.  It was a dirt and gravel motor pool that I located on an old map of Fort Bliss.  I even found some mercury dimes right on top of the ground.  This is not unusual for a desert region.  More than likely this was a soldier's "lucky coin" that he carried for good luck.  W.W. Bibb was the states first governor and T.E. Kilby was governor during the centennial.  Kilby had the distinction of being the first living person depicted on a  U.S. coin.  The 22 stars denotes Alabama as the 22nd state.
