Hunting an old church again in Bucks County, PA proved
to be a worthwhile adventure. I have been hunting the church grounds
for the last 20 years but thought I would give it a try with the White's
XLT. The 1878 seated dime and Indian head pennies (1887, 1893) were
all 4 1/2" deep. The dime actually gave off a half dollar reading...I
think because of overnight heavy rain. The wheat penny is 1914.
The object on the bottom right is a Clasp Eraser (holder) made by the Eagle
Pencil Cos. The Pat. date is July 20, 1886. The object top
row right is a rivet from a harness or reins. Part of the leather
is still attached. On January 8, 1987 I found an 1890 seated Liberty
dime at this same church. It also was 4 1/2" deep. The Indian
head pennies never gave a true penny reading on the VDI meter. Anywhere
from pull-tab to around 60 is where they hit. Always dig pull-tab
readings at 4 1/2" when detecting in an old church yard.
